Show Literary Club 77th Birthday Celebrated at Banquet The Woman's Literary Club held a 77th Birthday Party banquet March 7 In the Howard Balsley Hall of 'the Community Baptist Church. The tables were decorated decor-ated with nostalgia items of dolls, doll clothes, lamps and a covered wagon. wa-gon. President Ann Pool greeted the clubwomen and their husbands or guests. The pledge of allegiance al-legiance was led by Madge Warde and the prayer by Esther Balla. More volunteers were asked to help with registration regis-tration for the JeepSafarl on March 28, and a committee com-mittee of Leo na Christen- sen, Jen Pope and Madge Warde was appointed to ' work with other rganlza- tlons In sending a youth to theNatlonalYouthCon- ference In St. Louis, Mo. J this year. J Juanlta Mabery was the chairman of the past presidents, pre-sidents, who were liostes-ses liostes-ses for the event, and duo to her illness Ila Corbln was mistress of ceremonies cere-monies and In charge of the decorations. Mrs. Corbln gave a brief history his-tory of the club, In which she will attain a 50-year membership record this year. Mary Knop played Moonlight Sonata and Alley Al-ley Cat on the piano and Elma Lee Eldetkln read her poem, The Awakened Awaken-ed One, which Is to be entered in the state poetry poe-try contest. Guest speak- I illluMTIMf er was John Hoffman, historical his-torical geographer who is In this area working on his doctorate. He Is working work-ing on behalf of the Utah Historical Society here and Is also doing a study for the Water Conservancy Conserv-ancy Board on the proposed pro-posed Mill Creek dam. n J- ' l |
