The surety bond given by the Utah Construction company to secure the contract con-tract for constructing the $5,500,000 Hetch-IIetchy dam in California, one of tho largest contract bonds ever Issued in the wst, was written by Smoot-Ham-bi-r.Lrer-Ilinfz, Inc., of Salt Lake, ai'ier one of the hardest contests for bond business ever seen on the Pacific coast. The construction of the dam has been ordered by San Francisco to increase the city's water supply, and will take three years to huild. In order to obtain the contract tho Utah-Construct ion company was obliged to put up a bond for more than $3,123,000, the premium on which its more than J 120.000. Naturally, the bond was considered a big prize and many of the largest bond-writing bond-writing concerns on the Pacific coast made every effort possible to get it.
