Show r IDAHO DEMOCRATIC PLATFORM S Wo publish in this issue the full text of the Idaho Democratic Platform asS as-S adopted by the Territorial Convention of v 0 that party It is sound to the core upon g 1 all National questions and fully in accord c with the principles of Democracy and the I olitical I progression of the ago It emits li S no uncertain sound upon the MormonS Mormon-S question It states in plain concise andS r unmistakable terms the position 61 the S Idaho Democracy upon that issue denouncing S de-nouncing the lecherous and treason S able practices of Mormonism andS and-S its interference with political affairs S and pledging the party to the strict enforcement of the laws against polygamy and its attendant statutory S stat-utory offenses It expresses sympathy with tho loyal people of Utah inthir attempt to maintain the supremacy of tee laws and pledges the assistance of the Idaho Democracy in the promotion of such National legislation as will most swiftly paralyze the power of the priesthood priest-hood to destro the religious and political liberties of the people of this Territory In short the platform upon this question is just what might have been expected from a party which was mainly instrumental i instru-mental in the enactment of the Test Oath law and which in one year of Democratic Dem-ocratic National rule has done a thousand times more towards the suppression the Mormon evil than was effected in a quarter of a century cen-tury of Republican Administrations It gives the lie to the charges of unscrupulous unscru-pulous persons and journals that the Democrats of Idaho are seeking by compromise com-promise of principle to secure the support sup-port of the Mormon element at the election elec-tion No person elected to the Territorial Legislature upon this platform can vote forthe repeal of the Test Oath law with < out subjecting himself to execration by I all honorable men and political ostracism I ostra-cism by his party and it will be the duty I as it will doubtless be the pleasure of the Democratic Delegate to Congress endeavor to effect such national legislation as will most speedily suppress the objectional practices of Mormonism and wrest from the hands of the priesthood that political power by which the pernicious institution of polygamy is principally maintained Hon John Hailey the Democratic nominee for Congress most heartily endorses every word and syllable of the platform and is making telling speeches in support of its principles The attempts of a few Republican papers of but little influence and less reputation for veracity to attach to him the weight of Mormon affiliation will prove futile I The platform upon which he is running his candid and convincing avowal of principles and his well established character char-acter as an honorable and truthful man render him harmless to the feeble assaults as-saults of the scribbling maligners who are yelping at his heels He is as sound upon the Mormon question as his opponent oppo-nent has ten times the intellect and force of characteras is acknowledged even by the partisan friends of the Republican Re-publican nominee and would have ten times the amount of influence in Congress Con-gress He will bo elected by the loyal voters of Idaho and the Mormons are welcome to all the crumbs of comfort which his success will afford them |
