Show I Frederick Garner, Upbuilder of City and County Passes Away Today j Frodcrlck Garner, son of Philip and Mary Hcdrick Garnor, died today at 1 a. m.. at tho residence, 333 Thirty-fourth Thirty-fourth street, of old age. Ho was born near Lima, Hancock county, Illinois, October 13, 1S37. He came to Utah in 1S4D in tho G. A. Smith company with his parents and settled in Ogden. where he has resided continuously with tho exception of a few years in Idaho. Garner has spent a long llfo of activity and usefulness, and whilo farming has been his principal line or work, he has held various positions of trust and responsibility in the community. com-munity. He served as counselor to Bishop B. G. Crltehlow in the old First ward from Iecembcr, 1S7S, to January, Janu-ary, 1S90, and for several years was a home missionary in the "Weber stake, where he was well known. At the time of the driving of the Golden Spike, Mr. Garner was selected by Bishop Joseph A. West as one of the party to go to IDIko to greet Governor Gov-ernor Stanford of California. Ho has contributed to every public entcrpriso from tho erection of the first tele-, phone polo to the construction of roads, school housos and churches. Ho was road supervisor for a number of years in the Burch Creek district.! j It was during his administration that the roads wore greatly Improved. Surviving are his widow and the following chifdrcn: Annlo E. Pincock, I p. W. Garner, B. F. Garner of Sugar City, Idaho; B. L. Gamer, Ncwdale, Idaho; James N., Horace B., Alfred Garner and Alice M. Banford of Og-den, Og-den, forty grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. ' Funeral services will bo held in the First ward, meeting house Wednesday . afternoon at 2 o'clock, with Bishop D. H. Ensign officiating. |
