Show PIONEER WOMAN DIES AT HOME IN BEAVER Sarah Smith Gillies, 71, wife of Ebenezer Gillies Sr., prominent Beaver Beav-er resident, died at the family home Thursday at 2:30 a. m. after a week's illness from pneumonia. Mrs. Gillies was born here February Febru-ary 22, 1861, a daughter of John X. and Margaret Patterson Smith, early pioneers of Beaver. She married Ebenezer Gillies here in January, 1879. She was an active Relief Society worker. Her husband and eight sons and daughters survive: John, Ebenezer Jr., Dudley, Lucian, Glen and William Gillies, Beaver; Mrs. Ann Lee and Mrs. Geneve Price, Milford; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; eight brothers and sisters: John, Joseph, and a twin brother, Robert Ro-bert Smith, Mrs. Mollie Farrer, Mrs. Susan Murdock, Mrs. Emma Robinson Robin-son and Mrs. Nell Willden, Beaver; Mrs. Kate Bennett, Shelley, Idaho. Funeral services for Mrs. Gillies were held in the West Ward chapel in Beaver Saturday, June 25, at 2 p. m. The body lay in state for one hour before the services. A profusion of beautiful flowers showed the love and respect her friend and neighbors had for her. Service were conducted by Bishop Wesley Farrer. Prayer, Wm. A. Miller; Mil-ler; songs, "Goin Home" and "I know That My Redeemer Lives," Mrs. Esther Es-ther Bennett; "That Wonderful Mother of Mine," Lena Beck Mc-Garry; Mc-Garry; resolutions of respect, from the Relief Society amd Legion Auxiliary, Aux-iliary, Mrs. Kathleen Farnsworth. Glowing tribute of the kind understanding, under-standing, mother love, shown at all times toward her children, was beautifully beau-tifully told by Abe Murdock. Tribute to her pioneer parents and brief history his-tory of her life as a devoted wife and mother, J. F. Tolton. Closing prayer Bishop C. Dennis White. Interment was at the Mountain View Cemetery. The grave was dedicated dedi-cated by T. J. Bennett. Mrs. Gillies was a kind and loving mother and devoted her entire life for the comfort of her children. Besides Be-sides her eleven children she has been a mother to her little grandson Billie Gillies whose mother was taken tak-en from him in his infancy. She sent two of her sons to take part in the World War and did her part , helping with the Red Cross work. The out of town guests were Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bennett, Rill Bennett Ben-nett and Mrs. Lloyd Bennett of Shelley, Shel-ley, Idaho, Mrs. Matilda ant Lettie Fotheringham, Mr. and Mrs. L. D. McFadden, Mrs. Jean Pitchforth, Mrs. Bill Broyles, Mr. and Mr3. Frank Osborne, Mildred Rochek, Mrs. Erma Gillies, all of Milford. |
