Show o Local Lad Escapes Death From Rifle Billy Walker, seven year old son of Mr. and Mrs. B. T. Walker, nar-lowiy nar-lowiy escaped death at the hands of a playmate, Dickie Gillam, Thursday of last week, when he was shot in the jaw with a super-powered super-powered bullet from a .22 rifle. Mr, Walker is engineer in charge of the local A. T. T. & T. relay-station relay-station while the Gillam boy, six years old, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Gillam, Mr. Gillam being an associate engineer for the same company. The accident came about, supposedly, sup-posedly, as the result of a kids' quarrel, the Walker lad, known for his extremely pleasant disposition, apparently not having taken seriously seri-ously the threat of the Gillam boy to kill him as he went into his home to get his father's rifle. But for the fact that the .Walker boy had his head down as the shot was fired, it would no doubt have pierced his throat, resulting probably prob-ably in death, according to Dr. R. R. Shannon, who took care of the case. The injured lad was so far recovered re-covered the first of the week that he was able to be taken to his home but there yet remains an extensive ex-tensive job of plastic surgery before be-fore the boy's face can assume its normal contour. |
