Show DANGEROUS AUGUST While one of the most popular months in the year since il brings vacations for the greatest number of people and usually a lot of pleasant weather August is nevertheless recognized as about the most dangerous month in the year from the standpoint of health. It is the month in which it is necessary to guard against over-exertion, since heat prostrations prostra-tions are more numerous than at any other time. It is also the month in which extreme care is needed to avoid typhoid and malaria illness, the human system being in condition to contract these ailments more readily in August than it is during the cooler months. These facts explain why physicians and health officials are always insistent that property owners exert every effort during August to keep their premises free of weeds. They know that weeds contribute more than anything else to the diseases for which the month is noted, and they also know there is less sickness and fewer epidemics in communities where weeds and cess-pools are not permitted to exist. The fly and mosquito get in their heaviest work of carrying disease germs during August. They are thwarted in this only through the elimination of their favorite abiding places among the weeds and about damp spots and cess-pools. It will not be long now until cooler weather will bring safety from these pests, but do not go unprotected until that time. Cut the weeds about your premises once more, scatter some more lime, and let's make sure that Milford and surrounding sur-rounding communities will have no August regrets. o |
