By 6:30 p. m. six four-wheel drive vehicles and 13 members of the Iron County Jeep Patrol were in the search area and an organized search was underway, led by Charles Cooley; commander com-mander of the unit. Within one and one-half hours the entire area was systematically systematic-ally combed. At 8:30 p. m. a flare was set off by the supposedly suppos-edly lost men and a unit was quickly dispatched to bring the lost men to the rendezvous point where a dutch oven hamberger fry was enjoyed. The search was then discussed and points were gone over to make another search more effective. effec-tive. Jay Tock of the highway patrol and Keith Ence were the participants partici-pants posing as the lost men, but actually they were hiding not trying to be found as they picked a deep wash as their hiding hid-ing place where their outfit was to have overturned. The patrol aircraft was not permitted to Join the search because be-cause the test was to determine the effctlvenss of a Jeep search without aircraft assistance. |
