Show Clark, Region Six Athletes Play In Shrine Classic r "' " - A. $ . t " ' I I . " i . t , , . : l V . f & f HA k '71 LaMar Clark, outstanding young Cedar City athlete who won all-state recognition last fall as a member of the Cedar City high school football team, is in training at Salt Lake City this week for the Shriners-Utah High School Coaches association all-star all-star game to be played in the University of Utah stadium on Saturday, Aug. 16. By virtue of his winning a place on the all-state team La-Mar, La-Mar, who graduated from high school last spring, was invited to participate in the two-week clinic and play In the Shrine game as a member of the South team. A select group of young athletes who have completed their high school competition, will make ,up the North and South teams for the big battle in the UTE stadium with all proceeds pro-ceeds to go to the Shriners hospital hos-pital in Salt Lake City. Other Region Six football players play-ers who will be members of the South team are Benny Madsen of Hurricane, Theron Johnson of Delta, and Clair McKee, Ronald Phelps and Alto Wade of the state championship Millard high school team. The south team will be coached during the early part of the two-week clinic by Taft Watts, Millard coach, and Earl Ferguson, Bo Elder high school coach. The North team will be handled by Al Mercer, Cyprus, and John Vranes, West high school. In the final stages of the clinic the South team will be coached by Walter J. Aschen-back, Aschen-back, New Trier high school, Winnetka, 111., and the North team will be placed under the direction of E. P. (Chick) Coleman, Cole-man, St. Mary's high school, Phoenix, Ariz.. In addition to the football Shrine game, two Shrine basketball basket-ball games will also be staged, with stars from the B schools forming one team and the outstanding out-standing performers of the A schools making up the other. One game will be played in the University of Utah fieldhouse on August 13, and the other in the Brigham Young university field-house field-house at Provo on Friday, Aug. Paul C. Moon, Davenport hich school, Davenport, Iowa, will coach the A team, assisted by Bill Knibbe, coach of the South high school state champions. Art Beckner, Richmond high school, Richmond, Ind., will coach the B squad, assisted by Paul Wilson, Wil-son, Springville mentor, who led the Red Devils to the state B title. Region Six has two members on the B basketball squad, Wil-lard Wil-lard Hirschi of Hurricane and Bud Fullmer of Delta. The members of the football and basketball teams will have a busy two weeks. In addition to daily workouts in the sport in which each is participating the players will be royally entertained enter-tained in their spare time. There will be theatre parties, club luncheons, Pioneer league base- ball games, automobile races and the annual Utah Motor Transport association barbecue. Each player will receive a flashy blue-checked sports Jacket, bearing bear-ing a gold monogram, as an award. These will be presented by Frank A, Yeamans, Shrine potentate, po-tentate, and Cluff Snow, Utah High School Coaches association president |
