Show Funeral Services Held For Parowan City Matron Funeral services were conducted conduct-ed Saturday at 2 p. m. in the Parowan First-Second chapel for Sarah Isabell Connell Matheson, iH, Parowan's oldest lady resident, resi-dent, who died late Wednesday In the Iron County Hospital of causes incident to age. The services were conducted by Bishop Gordon Farnsworth, who was also a speaker on the program. Other speaker was Frances J. Bowler with a brief sketch of the life of the deceased being given by Mrs. Barbara M. Adams. Ancil J. Adams offered the Invocation, In-vocation, Alton Pendleton offered the benediction and the grave In the Parowan City cemetery was dedicated by F. C. Van Buren. The prayer at the home of Calvin C. Connell where the body lay prior to the services, was given by W. Leonard Evans. The musical program consisted of the opening song, "Oh My Father" by the choir, directed by F. C. Van Buren, and accompanied accompan-ied by Mrs. Dot Smith, who was also at the organ for prelude and postlude music; a vocal solo "Goin' Home" by Verl Taylor; a vocal solo "In the Garden" by President Howard D. Knight, and the closing song "Lead Me Gently Gent-ly Home," by a mixed group consisting of Cherie Day, Alice Mitchell, Berta Dalton, Frankie Lou Bentley, Ray Lyman, Verl Taylor, Karl O. Mitchell and Bishop Heber Gurr. Mary Lyman was at the piano for the last three numbers. Mrs. Matheson was born in Parowan Oct. 2, 1870, a daughter of James and Sarah Pendleton Connell. She attended local schools and later the Murdock Academy at Beaver, where she served as librarian for a number of years. She also served for a long period of time as Parowan City librarian. She was a very active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as a Sunday School teacher for more than ."O years, and had worked in the Relief Stciety and other LDS Church auxiliaries. She was married to Simon A. Matheson on Feb. 3, 1928 in the St. George Temple. He died Oct. 10, 1917. She is survived by thice brothers, bro-thers, Calvin C. Connell, Parowan, Paro-wan, William Connell of Provo, and Joseph Connell, Ogden; two sisters, Mrs. William (Mamie) Matheson, Duncan, Ariz.; Mrs. Reuben (Jean) Jones, Milford; a stepson, Frank Matheson, Nephl; stepdaughters: Mrs. Charles (Maude Richards, Salt Lake City; Ci-ty; Mrs. Samuel A. (Alice) Hal-terman.'Mrs. Hal-terman.'Mrs. Phillip (Clara) Benson, Ben-son, Mrs. Clair (Sarah) Lowder, all of Parowan; Mrs. Wallace (Florence) Houston, Panguitch; Mrs. Barbara English, Salt Lake City. |
