Father Michael 1 Phillipait of the diocese of C'.eA-eland, I O., died Sunday morning at 5 o'clock I at St. Mary's sanitarium. He had been here three Aveeks in search of health, and had expected to go to Colorado Springs at an early date. He Avas 46 years of age at the time of his death. The funeral Avas held from St. Ignatius Church Tuesday morning at 8 o'clock, Avhen Reo.uiem High Mass Avas said. After 7 o'clock Monday eA'ening until the time of the funeral the remains Avere in state at the church. The interment inter-ment avcs at RivervieAV. The Sisters of Loretto entered on their annual retreat of ten daA's Sunday Sun-day eA-ening. Father Wier is conducting conduct-ing the exercises. Re Father Peter Putallez left on Sunday for Las Vegas, N. M. German Catholics of Pueblo Avor-shiped Avor-shiped for the first time Sunday in their church, St. Boniface, corner of Sixth and Summit streets, Avith Father Gregory, their Priest, officiating. For months the event has been looked forward for-ward to Avith pleasure and pride by the congregation, and folIoAving the serA-ice was a social on the lawn surrounding the building. When it Avas decided by the German congregation. Aho formerly former-ly attended church at St.- Mary's, to ' haA-e a church of their oAvn, consider- able time AA-as spent in looking for a suitable building, Avith the result that the Summit street property, formerly used by Dr. Herbert Work as a sanitarium, sani-tarium, Avas selected as suitable. The I necessary purchase money Avas soon raised and the property secured. There Avas no friction at St. Mary's to cause the AvithdraAval, as an amicable agreement agree-ment had been entered into years ago providing this should be done Avhen the German congregation Avas large enough to support a church of their own. For the church proper the tAo largest rooms in the building have been used. An altar Avas donated by the NeAvton Lumber company and beautiful beauti-ful appurtenances by friends of Father Gregory in the east. To the left of the front entrance are Father Gregory's apartments and tAvo large rooms in the rear will be used as school rooms. There are other small rooms Avhich will be used as cloak rooms, store rooms, etc. A kitchen in the rear can be used at entertainments Avhich may be given by the ladies. Upstairs are a number of small rooms Avhich can be used as school rooms. It is Father Gregory's intention to start a school next fall, and from the pupila will be selected a boys' choir for the church. Much enthusiasm en-thusiasm is manifested by the members who Avere out in force Sunday, and expressed themselves highly pleased Avith their neAV place of Avorship. |
