Titled "Bet You Can't Rip A Tissue," his experiment involved placing a tissue tightly over the end of a long carboard tube, sugar was placed ta the tube, then a broom handle was used to try and push the sugar through the end of the tube. It couldn't be done. Sixth graders particiua ted in the fair Chick embryos, solar reflectors, color wheels, water flow featured at Grovecrest Science Fair On Thursday and Friday, May 3 and May 4, Grovecrest Elementary held its First Annual Science Fair with over 80 exhibits. It was a huge Stuctents worked for months on various projects ranging from Nuclear Fission to Solar Heat ' Collectors, to the steps a chicken I embryo goes through before it hatches. It was a difficult process for the judges to select the top projects because so many were well done. The criteria for judging was based on originality, neatness, effectiveness, and on the amount of work going into the project. All participants were winners, but the awards went to John Sumner, 1st place; Jared Passey, 2nd place winner; and in a tie for 3rd place, Rob Bigelow, and Jason Cook. Each student demonstrated his or her project to other students, who learned new and interesting facts about science. We're already looking forward to next year's Science Fair. |
