Show JOHN FINERTY IS DEAD. We are by no means sure that readers of the Republican ever heard of John Finerty of Chicago until they read recently that he had died. But if thev didn't know him, they har; missed one of the delisrhts of life. First of all, and all the time, John Finerty was an Irishman. He was a patriot who couldn't livq in the land of his birth without getting in jail, and so he came to America. He was a newspaper correspondent, cor-respondent, and army men of the old days remember re-member him as the best fighting non-combatant that ever traveled with General Crook's army. After that he was a member of congress from Illinois and should never have been retired. And in private life he has been an editor for twenty years or more, always an Trish patriot and always a great, big. lovable, effective worker for humanity wherever humanity needed a helpinc hand. Xo good man ever met John Finerty without, liking him. Xo one ever left him without wishing him well. Xo man ever reposed a confidence in him and was deceived. And no man who. knew birr will read or hear of his death without knowing Heaven is a little better place because of his goin'" there. For there he certainly went. He wasn't qualified quali-fied to go any palce else. Rest his soul! And let all his loved ones know how much better than riches it is to have been kin to Colonel Finerty.
