Show Cub Scout Regatta CANNONVILLE - It was "Ship Ahoy" in Cannonville July 30 as 24 Cub Scouts gathered at Cannonville Town Park for the landlocked town's boat regatta. The eight to 10-year old boys of Pack 3679, all from Tropic, Cannonville and Henrieville, matched their skills at boat building. Each had worked for the past month on making a sailboat from a small piece of wood, a piece of fabric and a rudder. Each boy carefully carved, shaped and painted his craft, designed to sail swiftly along. At 7 p.m July 30, the boys set up three ten foot sections of rain gutter, filled with pure Can nonville water and three at a time, launched their sailing ships with a huff and a puff. Each boy tried to blow his craft to the end of the gutter first. First place received 10 points; second place, 6 points, and third place, 3 points. Each boy raced his ship three times, accumulating points for his grand total. Overall winners in each age group were: For eight-year-olds, first place. Lance Nielsen; second place, Joey Stewart; and third place, Mitchell Littlefield. Among nine-year-olds, first place went to Brett Reynolds; second place to Gary Syrett; and third place to Cliff Reynolds. Carry Clark took first among the ten-year-olds; with Carlon Johnson taking second and Howie Nielsen, third. |
