Show Four Attend Cougar Basketball Camp TROPIC Four Bryce Valley area boys at tended basketball ' training camp at Brigham Young University recently. George Thompson, Cannonville and Scott Chynoweth, Dallin Baugh and Richard Ott, all Tropic, spent five days at BYU's summer basketball training camp to upgrade their skills for the coming basketball sason. Approximately 150 boys attended the training camp directed by Brigham Young University basketball coach Frank Arnold. Danny Ainge, basketball star, spoke to the boys and Arnold stressed the importance of proper sportsmanlike attitudes. Dallin Baugh, George Thompson and Richard Ott were named to one of two of the camp all-star teams. On July 24, the final game as won by their team. George Thomson received the "Most Valuable Player" trophy. Coach Arnold told the boys that he felt basketball stars Ainge and Jay Trumbull were fine examples of good attitudes and sportsmanlike behavior. He said that in the four years he had coached them he never heard either star use foul language. The Bryce Valley boys stayed at Chipman Hall during their stay at BYU, rose at 6:30 each morning for breakfast and spent the rest of the day exercising, .practiping and. .learning s: ''mew basketball skills. Each member of the All-Star team received a tee shirt with "BYU All-Stars" printed on it and each boy attending camp came home proudly with his "Cougar Basketball Camp" tee shirt already well-worn. The cost of the trip for each boy was about $186, with each boy working to earn his own way to camp, according to their enthusiasm, a return trip looks likely for next year |
