Show Sons of Utah Pioneers Restore Pioneer Wagon ESCALANTE - The Sons of Utah Pioneers Hole in the Rock Chapter at Escalante, sent the month of July restoring an old pioneer wagon for the July 24th parade. This has been a club project which has taken many hours of dedicated work. The wagon was given to the SUP by Dale and Thelma Marsh. It had been owned by Daniel Wilcox during the early history of Escalante. The club had to replace spokes, wagon tongue and fellies and build a complete box before the wagon was ready to be moved. Also old harnesses and collars had to be found and rejoined. Most of the work was supervised by Ivan Willis, vice president and Wayne Banks, past president and current director of the national S.U.P. Hal R. Shurtz, president and Randel Lyman, club -member also spent many hours to help complete the project. A mule team from Bryce Canyon was brought in to pull the wagon in the parade. "It was a very rewarding experience to take something out of the-past and restore it for future generations," Shurtz said. |
