Show Garfield Fair Opens With Livestock Show Garfield County's annual county fair officially opened August 1 with a livestock show about equal in size to year s past but a larger, more en thusiastic crowd this season. Livestock show director, Jack Soper noted that there were 25 junior exhibitors showing some 33 head of sheep, 19 hogs and 16 steers. Turnout was excellent for entrants in the judging contest competition with 32 persons entering this year. Team selected in the livestock judging contest included Kelly Holman, George Perkins and Mike Baldwin. Future Farmers of America individuals selected were 1st place Kelly Holman, 2nd place Mike Baldwin and 3rd to Paul i Hatch. 411 individual winners included for Ryan Hatch, Quin Brinkerhoff and Heath Hatch. In adult competition, Dan Perkins cinched first, with Judi Henrie, and Tom Hatch second and third. First and second place winners will receive a pocket knife and the first place team will take home a trophy. In market hog competition, Korry Soper certified as grand champion winner with Tad Jolley reserve champion. In feeder hog competition grand champion went to Scott Chris tensen; and reserve champion to Darrin Moore. Korry Soper again secured grand champion award for market lambs with Willie Riggs taking reserve champion. George Perkins also secured grand champion with feeder Iambs and Robert Miller receiving reserve champion. With market steers grand champion award went to George Perkins and reserve champion to Paul Hatch. In the breeding gilts classification, Korry Soper was awarded first place with Bobby Owen taking second. In breeding ewes category Ralph Perkins secured first with Scott Miller scoring 2nd. Breeding buck awards went first place to Ralph Perkins. In swine showmanship competition, Tad Jolley placed first with Korry Soper taking second, In sheep showmanship first place went again to Korry Soper with Mike Baldwin and Todd Henrie tying for second. In beef showmanship competition Raymond Roundy secured 1st with Paul Hatch and Claud Hatch also tying for second. |
