Show Brush Fire Held To Seven Acres Monday CIRCLEVILLE A fire was spotted by Circleville residents in an area southeast of Circleville about 11 a.m. Monday. Eleven Forest Service firefighters dispatched from the Panguitch office fought the blaze most of the day restricting the burn to under seven acres. District Ranger Clair Baldwin stated that the site of the fire was in a remote area known as Chokecherry basin and had undoubtedly been caused by lightning. He said that an air retardant tanker was kept on a standby basis but successful progress by firefighting crews ruled out its use. He said the Forest Service tries to control burning and put out fires while still keeping overall costs to the taxpayer as low as possible. Tankers with retardant chemicals are very expensive to use and' an effort is generally made to successfully fight fires without them where possible. Dennis Hatch, fire management officer at Panguitch who reported to work only last month at tht uigutich office, acted as fire bot on the operation, reporting back to tsaldwin at Panguitch on the progress of the firefighting effort. Two men remained on the fire overnight to watch for flare-ups after the fire was finally brought under control about 5 p.m. Mopping up continued Tuesday. |
