Show Safety Conscious Citizens Attend PTA Meet At a P-TA Safety Planning meeting Thursday, Nov. 3, called by Mrs. BJaine Standifird, council Safety Chairman, and conducted by Council President Mrs. R. V. Farnsworth, it was resolved that definite and prompt action should be taken to begin a thorough safety drive for all Cedar Ce-dar City schools. Other than the Council officers present, each school was represented repre-sented by its principals and unit president and safety chairmen. The city was represented by Coordinating Co-ordinating Council safety chairman chair-man Al Jensen and Police Chief Antone Lambert.. These well informed in-formed people .'were given a chance to report on surveys that have been conducted in each school and over the City to determine de-termine the cause and extent of local traffic and safety problems. Problems Noted It was noted that the location or mierent senoois, amount oi traffic near each school, parents' unloading and loading their children, jay-walking and teenage teen-age students driving cars are the major safety problems that confront con-front the city. After thorough discussion on all these problems, motions were passed to begin expedient action for remedy of the hazards involving in-volving our children. Loading zones are to be designated desig-nated by the Principal of each school to take care of the particular par-ticular need of each, thus eliminating elim-inating the snarling of traffic caused by parents bringing their children to school. These zones will be made known to parents through unit meetings and information in-formation given their children. Junior Patrol Investigations are to be conducted con-ducted on the use of Junior Safety Safe-ty Patrols and the financial bock-ing bock-ing needed for this project. A motion was passed to begin sin-" sin-" cere education for parents and children alike to be more safety conscious and for the control of teen-age drivers. It was voted that Coordinating Safety Chairman Chair-man Jensen approach all Cedar City civic clubs with these problems pro-blems to further publicize and educate the public. Research is to be conducted for more and larger traffic signs around the schools and throughout the city. Further meetings are to be held in all the schools and organizations organiza-tions concerned for Investigation Investiga-tion and solution of these safety problems. A meting of the Junior High PTA unit will be held in the very near future to deal expressly ex-pressly with teen-age drivers, and the North Elementary PTA will meet Thursday, Nov. 10, at 8:00 p. m. |
