Show 1167 Trek to Polls to Elect Unopposed Republican Threesome to Council AJthough the Republican ticket was entirely unopposed in the Cedar City municipal election Tuesday, 1167 voters went to the polls to cast their ballots. Well over one thousand of these cast their ballots for the three candidates can-didates listed on the ballot, with a smattering jf write-in votes cast. As a result of the election Grant SeegmiUer will serve another an-other term on the City Council, and Sam Gentry and Jim Heywood, Hey-wood, will begin terms on the council, succeeding Willard Lunt and Keith Smith, both Republicans. Republi-cans. Scegmiller is now completing complet-ing an unexpired term of Marion Grames, deceased. Mr. Seegmillcr was appointed to the position following fol-lowing the death of Mr. Grames. Heywood received a total of 10G8 votes, Gentry, 1043; and Scegmiller, 1039. Although there were 83 write-in write-in votes cast, there was no indication in-dication of a concerted write-in campaign, since the 83 votes were distributed between 4.) Individ-uals. Individ-uals. The largest write-in vote went to Rex E. Harris, accountant account-ant for the Utah Construction company, who received 17 votes. Rex Nelson received seven votes as did Willard Lunt. The newly elected officers will begin their terms on the council on January first and serve for terms of four years each. Serving with the three elected Tuesday will be Gwen Deal and II. Marvin Mar-vin Jones, whose terms run for two more years, and Mayor Arnold Ar-nold Anderson, whose term ends at the same time. Each of the 14 voting districts in the city recorded a comparatively compara-tively large vote considering the fact that there was only one ticket on the ballot, with Districts Dis-tricts No. 3 and No. 8 leading the way.
