Show Death Valley Route Sought By Utah Residents William Flanigan, 79, veteran explorer of Southern Utah, in company with Robert Pace of Thistle, left earjy this week by jeep in an attempt to trace the disastrous 1848 Death Valley Party Par-ty route from Cedar City to Death Valley. The two hoped to reach their destination in time for the Death Valley Pageant at Scotty's Castle on Saturday, Nov. 12. The ill-fated Death Valley Party Par-ty made the trek in 1849 in an attempt to reach California by a southern route and thus avoid the fate of the Donner Party trapped in the high Sierra mountains. moun-tains. So far as is known, no one has attempted to follow the route since 1849 until F.lanigan and Pace made the attempt this week. The two explorers have studied maps of the area and diaries of pioneers for many months in preparation pre-paration for the current undertaking, under-taking, and are hopeful of reestablishing re-establishing the route so "that authentic maps may be made and perhaps markers placed.
