Show Broncs Lick Carbon-Caused Wounds, Prepare for Annual Dixie Fracas The College of Southern Utah Broncos suffered their fourth con-secutive con-secutive Intermountain Collegiate Colleg-iate Athletic Conference loss Friday Fri-day afternoon when the Carbon Eagles of Trice handed down a 33 to 11 decision. It was Carbon's homecoming game and although they had not won a conference game going into the battle they displayed some extra -ordinary offensive powers for the homecoming fans. The Broncos' although defeated displayed some good offensive patterns but the dwindling ranks, owing to injuries, could not contain con-tain the Eagles. j Coach Bruce Osborne's Broncos scored in the first period of play and pushed over the first score of the game. However, the Eag.'es retaliated with two touchdowns if their own and a conversion to lead 13 to 7 at the end of the first period. Carbon added another TD in the second t period for 20 to 7 halftime lead. Another touchdown for the Eagles came in the third period to rack up a 27 to 7 third quarter lead. Both 'teams scored in the final period for the final 33 to 14 tabulation of scores. Injuries Hurt Still suffering from early and mid-season injuries the Broncos entered the Carbon game reduced in already slim ranks. Bill Mead-or Mead-or and Jim Nielson. two regular halfbacks were not in shape to participate in the ICA conference game. LaMar Clark, regular fullback, full-back, saw little action. He has had a recent operation over his left eye. Injuries along the line were also critical. Now the Broncos are looking forward to their final appearance appear-ance of the season. Friday, Nov. 11 at 2:00 p.m. they meet the Dixie Rebels in the Sun BowJ irf St. George. Although a non-conference non-conference game, the coveted "Axe" is at stake and the Rebels are anxious to post a win over the Broncos. In conference play the Broncos posted a 20 to 31 victory over the Rebels. In the waning moments on the game Dixie pushed across one touchdown taking to the air in desperation. As a result Coach Osborne expects to run into a passing attack from the Rebels. If that attack can be stymied the "new" look in the Broncos offensive should be enough to throw the Rebels offguard. Both teams have only two wins for the season and five losses. |
