Regarding any official action on his part, he sail), "legally, the decision as to whether or not to remain in the association is a County Commission decision, and there is little I or anyone else can do about it." He continued, "I would like, however, to have an opportunity to sit down with the county commissioners commission-ers of Grand , San Juan, Emery and Carbon Counties, to see if there isn't some way to fashion an association divided into two divisions one of them in Carbon and Emery, the other in Grand and San Juan." Speaking to area differences, he said, "Hopefully, we can structure some divisions grouping areas with similar problems." Gov. Matheson spoke to the Monticello Chamber of Commerce L. March 11, and spent some time in the B area. He commented, "Having just a spent a weekend in Southeastern E I'tah, I am extremely aware of the fl geographic problems facing local offi- B cials in terms of travel to and from B meetings. The travel schedule must I be a killing one, and something must be done to maintain the beneficial B parts of a regional alignment without so much time involved in travel." Grand and San Juan Counties' letter to tho governor outlining the reasons for Grand County's split and the desire to join forces, was received by him Tuesday morning. He said, "I intend, now that I have received official notification from counties involved, to immediately call a meeting meet-ing in the region with the county commissions and other local officials of all four counties involved." "At that time, I am hopeful that we can get all the problems out on the table, and fashion a solution that will benefit all persons in all four counties," coun-ties," he concluded. B |
