Show City Gets Good Bid on ftfeiv Wafer line The bid on laying pipeline from the Corbin Well to connect it with city water lines went to Engineer's Construction, Pleasant Grove for $19,907. At the bid opening during regular city council meeting Tuesday, bids ranged from this low to a high of nearly $60,000. The engineers estimated the construction should cost in the neighborhood neighbor-hood of $31,000. A number of other matters were considered by the council during the evening meeting. The Chamber of Commerce Com-merce was promised $400 to be used for a fireworks display on July 24. The display, said Chamber representative Jim Wiseman, will be set off from the abandoned telephone pad on the bluff northeast of Moab, where it will be most effective in terms of visibility. Wiseman said the county will be asked for $400, with an additional about $150 needed from other donors to put on the display. Glen Bunce, representing the Moab Country Club, requested permission to raise greens fees and this request was granted. Greens fees will raise this year as follows: 9 holes, $2 to $2.50; 18 holes, $3.50 to $4; student weekdays, $1 to $1.50; single annual membership, $125 to $130; couple annual membership, $150 to $180; and family membership, $175 to $200. The tent caterpillar spray program was discussed, and it appeared this program will cost about $6,000 for one application, with the cost to be borne equally by the city and county. More detailed information, including a decision on the type of chemical to use, will be needed before a contract can be let. There was request that PVC plastic pipe be allowed for water lines. Since the current ordinance requires cast iron pipe, it was decided that experts should be consulted and the ordinance amended as needed to allow compliance with the most modern developments in water pipe materials. A beer license for cafe on premise consumption was given to Marvin Som-erville Som-erville for La Hacienda Restaurant. |
