Show Rest Area and Information Center Coming at Thompso) 1 The Utah Department of Transportation plans to build a new Information Center and Rest Area on westbound 1-70 near Thompson in Grand County. The facility will be located about 45 miles west of the UtahColorado line near Thompson Interchange. The Information Center will welcome wel-come Utah-bound travelers from the east and provide them an opportunity to get acquainted with Utah's many and diverse travel and vacation vaca-tion options. The Utah Travel Council plans to staff the Information Center during peak travel times and will provide a resident caretaker for the facility. The caretaker will live in a mobile home on-site. During off-hours, special information in-formation panels will help the traveler with road and location loca-tion information. Rest rooms, water fountain, sheltered picnic pic-nic tables and a sheltered view area are included in the plans. UDOT Coordinator for Roadside Development Laird Larson said the Rest Area and Information Center are designed de-signed to provide incoming travelers with helpful tourist information, including audiovisual audio-visual presentations of Utah's attractions. 'They are also meant to be an inviting lure to stop and rest awhile," said Mr. Larson. "A well-rested traveler will be a safer driver on Utah's long stretches of highways." The entire installation instal-lation was designed to blend with the natural desert en- vironment of the area. "Landscaping "Land-scaping was kept to a minimum, mini-mum, to be compatible with the surrounding terrain and assure economy of upkeep. The building itself is constructed con-structed of slump blocks, which are particularly attractive attrac-tive in that environment. Slump blocks are concrete blocks made to look like adobe," said Mr. Larsen. The design includes consideration con-sideration for the handicapped handi-capped traveler by providing ramp accesses and modified rest room facilities. uuui today opej on an 150 working tract for construct f facility.
