Show HT EXAMINING THE CHILDREN H OF OGDEN. H Beginning tomorrow, the Children's H Aid society is to hold what is known H as a child welfare examination, at H the Ogdon high school. H Babies up to 5 years of age are to H be brought before four physicians, a B ' dentist and an oculist and tested as H to physical and mental imperfections. H The object is to point out to raoth- H ers tho necessity of correcting in H their babies any defects which, If H neglected, might retard the physical H and mental development of their lft- H ! tie Hi The eyes will be tested, tho ears J examined and the nose scarched""for 1 "adenoids. The teeth will be inspected for cavities. Measurements will be tak- j en of the chest and the weight of the j child recorded. The lungs and heart H! will be tested. j This is an excellent move and one H which, Ve understand, Utah cities H have been somewhat slow to adopt H from eastern places where tho good H to be attained early had been recog- H nlzcd. H The mothers of narrow chested chil- j dren will be instructed to train the H babies in proper breathing and in H lung expansion. The children light in weight will be further investigated investigat-ed for malnutrition. Even the mentality of tho babies Is to be under review and defectives will be prescribed for, as tho backwardness back-wardness of thofao below normal may bo traced to physical weaknesses. The Children's Aid society is to offer of-fer help to mothors with children in need of medical assistance, who aro unable to meet thb doctor bills. Tins examination is to bo broad-onod, broad-onod, until all tho children of tho schools are passed upon by medical experts and dentists. It is an excel lent move, and may do mucb for the general health of the children of this community. |
