Show Prominent Parowan leader dies; honored at services Saturday of Jackie Robinson, Janet Jones, Merna Mitchell sang "Gods Other Room" . They were accompanied ac-companied by Una Mortensen. The invocation was given by Craig Mitchell also a grandson and a history was given by Sony Lamoreaux a granddaughter. A male quartet sang also accompanied ac-companied by Mrs. Mortensen members of the quartet were Verl Taylor, Bruce Decker, Karl Mitchell and Robert Rowley. The speaker was Howard Knight after which the Ladies trio sang "Precious Lord Take My Hand". Benediction was by Duane A. Lamoreaux with dedication of the grave by Watson Adams. Pallbearers were grandsons Merton Mitchell Jr. Scott Haycock, Larry Haycock, Gordon Adams, Rodney Adams, and Ricky Mitchell. Flowers were under the direction of Florence S. A f v l " WALTER SCOTT MITCHELL PAROWAN - Walter Scott Mitchell, 84, vice president and director of the Bank of Iron County for 20 years died Jan. 22 in a Parowan Rest home of causes incident to age. Mr. Mitchell established the first variety store in Parowan, built and opoerated Parowans first motel and managed the first theater in Parowan for 35 years. He was mayor of Parowan for two terms and was a charter member and the first president of Parowan Lions Club. He was also owner and operator of Mitchell's furniture and hardware. hard-ware. A son of Walter Collins and Mary Selena Orton Mitchell he was born Jan. 24, 1890 in Parowan. He married Bertha Whitney, June 12, 1913, in the St. George temple after fulfilling an LDS mission to the Southern States. She died Jan. 9, 1972. Survivors include son's and daughters; Kent W. Ogden N. Merton Las Vegas, Mrs. B. Benson (Aice) Haycock, Salt Lake City, Mrs. D. Watson (Veda) Adams Parowan. 19 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren. He is also survived sur-vived by the following brothers and sisters. Ray O. Elmer O. and Mrs. Ward (Itha) Mortensen all of Parowan. Mrs. Sylvia Jones Cedar City; Mrs. Ed (Eva) Rawling; Santa Anna California. Funeral services were held Saturday in the Parowan Third Ward LDS chapel. Itha Mortensen Mor-tensen played the postlude and prelude music for the services. Ernest Ahlborn officiated. The family prayer was given by a grandson Donald M. Haycock. A vocal trio consisting |
