Show City Licenses require accurate figures Cedar City Corporation is finding a number of inconsistencies in-consistencies in payment of business licenses for the 1975 year, according to Yorke S. Nelson City Recorder. In order to clarify the requirement and to notify businesses that business license applications have been or will be mailed to establishments for the 1975 year. Nelson stated that too many of the completed forms are being returned with figures pertaining to gross income being rounded off to even dollars, which in some cases is an arbitrary figure only. Investigation regarding some of these businesses has resulted in the individual having to pay a supplemental charge in order to obtain the 1975 license, he stated. The total gross entry is based on the previous year's accounts (except for a new business) and license fee is then calculated at one tenth of one percent of that gross figure. The ordinance pertains to all accounts over $25,000. If under the $25,000 gross, the license fee is a minimum of $25.00. Nelson indicated that it has also been brought to the attention of the City Offices, that business transactions consumated in Cedar City but involving out of town customers, have not been considered as Cedar City revenue. If the sale takes place in Cedar City and the merchandise is exchanged in Cedar City, this must be included in the gross receipts, he emphasized. It was further pointed out that the Cedar City office does have the authority to audit business records where deemed necessary. |
