Judge puts skids on Woods Cross girls' winning streak J - : . j , v. x J t ByTOMHARALPSEN WOODS CROSS-Judge Memorial used a tenacious second half defense to defeat Woods Cross 47-36 in Region Six girls basketball basket-ball Friday afternoon. The loss ended end-ed a five-game Woods Cross winning winn-ing streak and left the Bulldogs at 7-1 and the Wildcats at 5-3. Meanwhile, Bountiful was moving mov-ing to 7-1 as well with a victory over Granite, and in Region One, Viewmont remained in first place with a victory while Davis split a pair of games last week. REGION SIX JUDGE 47 WOODS CROSS 36 At Woods Cross, the Wildcats appeared to have this game well in hand after taking a 28-16 halftime lead Woods Cross shot 58 percent the first half while holding Judge to just 27 percent from the field. But the second half was another story. Judge made the right adjustments ad-justments on defense, forcing the Wildcats to just 10 percent shooting (2 of 20) while hitting 14 of 24 from the field. Particularly troublesome was Judge's Catherine Johnson, who scored 16 points and hit all five shots from the field in the second half. Judge tied the game at 30-all with 2:40 in the third period, and took the lead for good when Heather Betit scored in the final minute of the quarter. Woods Cross managed only eight second-half points, three each by Dawn Britton and Amy Turman and two by Maggie Allen. Britton led Woods Cross with 14 before fouling out. Allen added eight and Mindy Kirkham seven. The Lady 'Cats made just seven of Bountiful Braves surprised Region Six matmen by placing eight into the State Wrestling Championships Cham-pionships this weekend in the Weber State College Dee Events Center. WOODS CROSS 56 JORDAN 53 On Tuesday at Jordan, Turman scored 18, Britton 12 and Wilcox 1 1 as the Wildcats dropped the Beet-diggers. Beet-diggers. The Wildcats moved from a 28-23 halftime advantage to a comfortable 46-35 lead entering the fourth period. Allen added eight and Kirkham seven for Woods Cross. Jordan was paced by Andy Hendrickson with 14 and Kristy Brown with 12. BOUNTIFUL 65 GRANITE 55 At Granite, Maegan MacKay scored 25 and Jessica Olson poured in 19 as the Lady Braves followed Tuesday's big win at Judge with a win over the Farmers. Bountiful is now 7-1 in league. BOUNTIFUL 53 JUDGE 41 On Tuesday at Judge, the Braves beat the previously undefeated Bulldogs as Nikki Hanni came alive with 19 big points. Bountiful was up 26-25 at halftime before pulling away the second half. Four Braves were in double figures, fig-ures, as Cody Poole added 11 and both MacKay and Olson had 10 each. In Region Six games this week. Bountiful was at West and Granite at Woods Cross on Tuesday, while Friday games find Tooele visiting Bountiful and Woods Cross at West, both at 3:30 p.m. REGION ONE VIEWMONT 50 ROY 38 The Vikings remained in first place with a victory Friday over the Royals, as Jennifer Jeppesen led the way with 18 points. Viewmont shook off some early doldrums to notch the victory after having a bye on Tuesday. Melissa Eggett had 16 points, including in-cluding a perfect 12-of-12 from the line, while Jenny Siddoway bombed in two three-pointers and had nine points. ROY 41 DAVIS 36 DAVIS 58 CLEARFIELD 43 On Tuesday at Roy, the Royals edged the Darts, who had trouble from the free throw line, hitting just 10-of-28 shots. Periann Home paced pac-ed Davis with 1 1 points and Nicole Robinson chipped in nine. Friday's effort against Clearfield in Kaysville was much better, as Home scored 19, Tanja Fraughton tallied 1 6 and Chauny Morgan added add-ed 10. This week's contests included Weber at Viewmont and Bonneville at Davis on Tuesday, while Friday's games find Viewmont at Clearfield and Davis at Weber, both at 4 p.m. The 4-A state girls' tournament is just two weeks away. It begins February 19 at Murray High, with the championship set for Saturday, February 24.
