Show Anyone can develop good health "A successful nutrition and physical fitness program can be developed de-veloped to fit any individual's lifestyle," life-style," says Barbara Haywood. Haywood spoke at Benchmark's fust Soup 'n Salad after the new year, Jan. 24. Her theme was: ''Let's make a commitment for a healthier way of life. 4 'Don't curl up by the TV and eat a piece of pie. Get your arms moving, mov-ing, we want constant motion for 20 minutes," Haywood said. A schedule should be implemented, but each physical fitness workout will be different for each individual in-dividual she added An effective program consists of exercising three to five times per week, working at a particular level high, -medium or low intensity, for 20 to 60 minutes. Haywood suggested, 4 'Get a friend and go walking or go by yourself. Some of the best thinking times for me are when I exercise." Haywood continued, 4 'I feel good physically and emotionally." According to Haywood, goals should be made on several different levels short term and long term. When an individual is just beginning, beginn-ing, goals should be made that can be attainable and then work up from that point. "When a goal is accomplished, we tend to reward ourselves with food,' she stated. "Instead we should reward ourselves with something that will motivate us to continue our exercise program things such as new running shoes, a new leotard, etc., Haywood said. Haywood expressed that the benefits of exercise are excellent when an individual performs on a regular basis. These benefits include in-clude feeling good, having more energy and developing a natural feeling of well-being. Benchmark Regional Hospital offers bi-weekly seminars to the public.
