Roberts of Alpine and 1 brother, Joseph Beck of Prove n . of eight children. Her father was a wealthy farmer and was living on the "Fugholt" estate at Wisbury, Denmark Den-mark with his family when ho was converted to the Divine teachings of Mormonism. They sacrificed all for their religion. Christian J. Beck emigrated em-igrated six other families besides his own to this country. It was on May 20, 1S6G, that they left parents, relatives, rela-tives, friends, their native country and all that was near and dear to them and started their journey to Utah. They crossed the Atlantic on the sail-ship sail-ship "Kendleworth". It was an old sail-ship, and this was it's last voyage voy-age across the sea. It took them eight weeks and three days to cross the Atlantic. The ship caught fire three times while crossing (he ocean and during the voyage her infant brother, Christian, Jr., died and was buried in the ocean. On reaching New York many of the company died of the severe heat. On account of not having enough teams it became the task of those who were able, to walk from Omaha to Salt Lake City. They reached Salt Lake, September 20, 1866, just four months to the day from the time they - left home. They left Salt Lake City just a few days after their arrival, stopping at Lehi, where they lived for two years and finally they moved to Alpine where the father took up a homestead and raised his family to man and womanhood. Dorthea has remained here for over 60 years. She was married to Joseph W. Watkins September, 1877 by Bishop M'cCulIaugh and then was married for eternity in the Old Endowment House in Salt Lake in 1878 by Daniel H. Wells. To this union there were five children born: Lorenzo, Oscar, John Joseph and Mrs. Mary Chaney.
