Show FINALS III TENNIS TOURNAMENT TODAY Neel, Boyer, Badger, Myers, My-ers, Park and McKay to Battle. The last of the semifinals in the in-termountain in-termountain tennis tournament were played yesterday afternoon, and the finals will be played this afternoon, closing the largest tennis tourney of the year in Salt Lake, or of aoy past year. The play yesterday consisted of three matches, two in the doubles and one in the singles. Xeel and Boyer won the right to compete com-pete in the finals by defeating Kerwin and Duncan, 6-3, 6-0. The contest was rather tame, Xeel and Boyer at no time being in danger of defeat. All the matcnes, in fact, were of a very ordinary ordi-nary nature. In the other doubles contest Badger and Mvers defeated McKay and Moore. 6-2. 6-3. Parker won the semifinal in the singles sin-gles from Paul Kerwin, 6-2, 6-2. Parker Par-ker was very muh the favorite in this event and won it rather easily. Kerwin, Ker-win, however, pushed him hard times and succeeded in winning some of the games. The doubles final today will be between be-tween the Neel -Boyer and Badger-Myers Badger-Myers teams. The two combinations are evenly matched and neither is looked upon as a favorite. Parker and McKav will faee each other oth-er in the singles. Parker has been unusually un-usually successful in the various racquet tournaments this year, which fact, along with his reraarkablp showing in past years, marks him the favorite in today's fray. McKay has been playing here'only a short time and his ability is not so well known. In his recent matches he has displayed great skill and it is possible that hp may spring a surprise. sur-prise. Both matches will begin at 3:30 o Vlock. The finals in the men's events were originally set for L-abor day, but rain delayed affairs almost an entire week. The crowds, furthermore, have not bn as large during the past week as at first, owing to the sudden change in the weather. Today will mark the climax of the local tennis tournaments, and the matches should b the fastest of the year. For this reason it is expected that an exceptionally large crowd will witness the play. A few of the women 's evenfti have been played during the past week. The remainder of the preliminary contest, as well as the semifinals and finals, will be held during the present week. |
