Show I PRODUCTION OP ZINC ' ORES IS INCREASING New Properties and Dis-tricts Dis-tricts Heretofore Unknown Un-known Opened. I The production of sine ores, both of the Isulphide and of the carbonate character, ps showing a decider! increase, not only lin Utah, but in the surrounding states, according to David Taylor, agent of the Edgar Zinc company, a subsidiary of 'the I'nlted States Steel corporation, which company has recently entered the business of producing spelter. In discussing dis-cussing the ir creased activity in zinc mining, Mr. Taylor said yesterday: More attention is being paid by r' mining men to the production of sine f ores at the present time than a i any time in years. This is undoubt-;t undoubt-;t edly due to the increased price of spelter. And the Increased price of rj spelter is undoubtedly due to the ex- ceptional demand from manufacturers Mia w'" munitions. Conservative stu dents of the metal market expect this p demand to continue for a considerable period and some predict that it will II jj last long after the European war lias a ended. They; in fact, look for a greater demand as soon as the reconstructive recon-structive period begins. The increased activity lias caused It many new districts to be opened up. And in many mines .that heretofore t' produced no zinc to speak of greater attention is being paid to t lie zinc deposits. The new- district located p . near Promontory' Point is an illustra tion of a district that Is sending out a very heavy tonnage, considering its a infancy as a sine-producing section. There has been a decided increase in the tonnage sent out of Park City. The Goodsprings district in Nevada l is also sending out a heavy tonnage. Butte needs no introduction as a zinc p producer, and yet the tonnage has been materially increased. The Coeur d'Alene district ami the Lead vl lie district dis-trict are both sending out heavy tonnages, ton-nages, as is the Doctor mine' near Aspen, Colo., in what is known as Taylor Park. The greater attention being devoted to the development of zlno ore bodies In producing mines Its &: throughout Utah has resulted in a 0 material increase in the earnings "of the companies. The greater activity f among prospectors has resulted in bringing in new properties. The Edgar Zinc company, with bead- quarters at St. Louis and with smelting plants located at Cherryvale, Kan., and r i Carondelet, Mo., is at present shipping ta j most of the zinc ore purchased in the i west to the plant of the American Steel l & Wire company at Donora, Pa., also a subsidiary of the United States Steel cor poration. The Edgar Zinc company has recently opened offices in Salt Lake. |
