Show DiSPUTETRiSES 01 COUNTY BOOiiES Location of Roosevelt Is Subject of Discussion at Conference. Much discussion was' indulged in yes terday by the commissioners of Duchesne county, in conference with Attorney At-torney General A. R. Haines and State Engineer YV. D. Beers, in an effort to determine the location of Roosevelt with regard to the Duchesne mid Uinta county coun-ty boundary line. Incidentally there has been some speculation as to whether the town would have stayed fixed in Duchesne county had it been known by some other name. Indeed, some aspersions asper-sions have been cast upon the reasoning reason-ing ot a certain romancer, by name Romeo, Ro-meo, hn is accredited with arguing that there is nothing in a name. The latest maps of the United States feodetic aurvev show Roosevelt in 'iota county. The commissioners of the county say that this is due to the shifting shift-ing of meridian 110 a mile and a half west from where it was supposed to be at the time that it was made the boundary boun-dary line between TTinta county and Wasatch county. The same boundary line has stood between TTinta county and the new county of Duchesne, formed of the western part of what was Wasatch cou nty. What the county commissioners want ed to know was whether fne boundary line must be shifted to the corrected location lo-cation of the meridian. Attorney General Gen-eral A. R. Barnes gave the opinion that the boundary should remain where it was located at the time of the admis sion of Utah to statehood, irrespective of the correction of the position of the meridian. This left the problem with the state engineer for final solution. Mr. Beers said at the conclusion of the conference con-ference last night that he would take steps as soon as possible to determine the location of the boundary line to see if it can be divorced from the meridian and kepi where it has always been sup posed to be. The Duchesne county commissioners, who are .lames K. L. Carey, chairman of the hoard: I,. A. Russell and George Lindsay, were somewhat reassured yes terlay after the case had been gone over by the attorney general and state engineer. One of the complications that would have to be dealt with, should Roosevelt be found permanently located in Uinta county, is that of the site for the proposed new high school of Duchesne county, which i4 at Roosevelt. The discussion of the problem took up the greater nart of the Hay yesterday and was held in the office of Attorney General A. R. Barnes, on the fifth floor of the Felt building. |
