Show DISCUSS PROPOSED CONCRETE HIGHWAY Working Arrangements for Highway in Provo Are Considered. WILL DIVIDE EXPENSE Railway, City, State and Property Owners to Join in Construction. An exhaustive discussion of working arrangements for the building of the proposed mile of cenerete road in the city of Provo uuder the joint action of the city, state and the Salt Lake & Utah railway, was held yesterday at a joint session of the road commission and the city commission of Provo. The conference confer-ence was held in, the office of E. K. Morgan, state road engineer. The commissioners from Provo who attended the meeting were Mavor C. F. Decker, H. 3. Coddard and Le Roy Dixou. With them was George G. Swan, citv engineer of Provo. Bids for the construction of the city's share of the road have .been opened by the commission and were submitted to the state road commission yesterday. Will Expedite Work. It is probable that the contractor to -whom the city's work is awarded will get the work from the state also, as this plan, it is thought, will simplify and expedite the worlt. The estimated cost of the mile of road is about $57,000. Of this it is estimated that $12,000 will be borne bv the citv and state in co-operation. $15,000 by the railroad company and Sj.30.0Op by the owners of propertv abutting abut-ting upon the road. The road to be built will extend along Center street from Fifth West street to First Fast street, along Academy avenue from Center street, to First North street, and along First West street front Center street to First North street. The road will be eighty-six feet wide. Expense Is Divided. The cost of the twenty-two feet in the middle of the road is to be borne bv the railroad company. The city and state will jointly construct strips nine feet wide 'on each side of this center strip, and the owners of abutting property prop-erty bear the expense of construction of strips on each side twenty-three feet wide, extending to the curbs. The contract for the work to be done under the supervision of Provo City was not let yesterday, but will prob-ablv prob-ablv be awarded within the next few davs.' The bidding contractors were P. 3. Moran, Gilkerson Construction com-panv, com-panv, Parrott Brothers Construction companv, Morris & Knudsen, Kyberg Brothers. S. H. Belmont and the Wasatch Wa-satch Grading company. |
