Show Utah Club Women Get Back of Move The Club women of Utah, at th of their annual convention held here, strongly endorsed the movement to secure at the next legislature a state institution for the care and treatment treat-ment of those suffering with tuberculosis tuber-culosis in the state. The passage of the resolution came at the close of a strong appeal made by T. B. Kidner, of New York City, who was detailed by the National Tuberculosis Association Asso-ciation to come to Utah, and help plan the proposed institution and look over possible locations. Mr. Kidner is national director of sanatorium san-atorium plannin for the tuberculous and is also consultant and advisor to the U. S. Veteran's Bureau at .Washington, .Wash-ington, D. C, in the erection of hospitals hos-pitals for the ex-service man. Addressing the convention of women's wo-men's clubs, Mr. Kidner commented on the annual loss of lives in Utah from tuberculosis. "You are losing approximately 180 persons every year, which means that there are about 1G00 people in this state who are ill with this dread disease. This is a very serious problem, and it is made more so by the fact that you have no sanatorium in Utah to care for these people. Every state in the Union, save Utah . and two others, have made provisions for these sufferers, suf-ferers, and the time has now come when, in the interests of humanity and the protection of our public health, we shall provide such, an institution in-stitution in Utah. At the coming session ses-sion of the Legislature," said Mr. Kidner, "a bill will be introduced for the establishment of a modern, up-to-date tuberculosis sanatorium, and the women's clubs of Utah can help enormously, both as a body and through its members individually, in promoting and effecting the passage of this resolution." Following are the resolutions passed by the convention:' Resolved, by the Utah. Federation of Women's clubs in annual convention conven-tion assembled that we strongly endorse en-dorse the efforts being made by the Utah Public Health Association to provide a state tuberculosis sanatorium sana-torium for the treatment and education educa-tion of those suffering with this disease dis-ease in our state, and realize that the general public health is safe-guarded by the hospitalization of these cases. Resolved, further, that to aid this Association in this praise-worthy effort, we endorse the sale of the tuberculosis tu-berculosis Christmas Seals, the moneys from which are the only means of support for the national and state organizations in their campaign cam-paign against tuberculosis. |
