Show Eminent Divines Visit Gunnison Rev. Paul G. Stevens of Los Angeles, Ang-eles, representative of the board of National missions, and Rev. Walter M. Irvin, D. D., of Denver, Colo., secretary sec-retary of the general council of the Presbyterian church for the Rocky Mountain district, gave interesting addresses ad-dresses at the Presbyterian chapel Tuesday evening of this week. A splendid representation of the citizens of Gunnison was present and thoroug-ly thoroug-ly enjoyed the sermons and lectures. An illustrated lecture was given and Rev. Stevens gave some highly interesting inter-esting statistics and facts concerning the growth of the church. Rev. Stevens, who has traveled extensively, gave pictures of the work among Al-I Al-I askans. Cubans. Indians. Mexicans, immigrants and of the work done in the open country and throughout his pictures and lecture were highly int. ?-esting ?-esting and educational. Rev. Irwin gave some interesting data concerning the great work thr.t is being done by the Presbyterian church, . and his hearers were surprised sur-prised to learn how large the Presh;-terian Presh;-terian denomination is and that its 'program of work reached thirty-seven different countries, and forty-two nationalities in the United States. The church now has 1,800,000 members. It has about 1500 foreign missionaries and carries a budget of $15,000,000 for its missionary work. This includes the I schools, hospitals, churches and varir'l ! lines of services for all classes of people. j Rev. A. V. Boand, who was with the i visitors, cave a few remarks on the coming Christian Endeavor convention that is to be held at Provo the last of this week. He stated that a good program had been arranged, that splendid speakers would be present and a record crowd was looked for. |
