Show ORATORS OFTWDLDCAL SCHOOLS TO COMPETE TODAY Three orators from Ihe Ogdefl high school and three from the Weber normal nor-mal college Will compete this afternoon after-noon at Ihe Ogden Tabernacle for the annual prizes orrered by Lr. Edward 1 Rich. Tbe first prize i-t a cash gift or $35 and the second a cash gilt of $15. The three who will represent the i high school with their subjects r.ro as i follows: Hattlebell Shields, "A Tribute to Woodrow Wilson;" Laurene Shields. "Our Call to Service;" Carol Sand-Mrum, Sand-Mrum, "Liberty and the American People." The three who will represent the : normal c jollege and their subjects are as follows: Russell Petty, "Duties of an American Ameri-can Citizen;" Carl Storey, "America's War Aims " Douglas Leishman, "Ara-! "Ara-! erica At War." The Rich oratorical contest has been 'the subject for several years past of much rivalry between the two schools. The Weber Normal collece.has taken the prize ihe greatest number of limes having won ihe last three contests while the high school won the former two. Because the score is so close it is expected the orators will push themselves them-selves to great efforts this -afternoon. The contest will commence at 3 p. m. and everyone is invited. John Cul- ley will be chairman of the meeting and the judges who have been selected select-ed are (J. M Sullivan and Professor I Quivey of Salt Lake, the latter of the i English departme nt of the state uni-, uni-, vanity. There is to be one more judce but the selection had not been made I early this afternoon The oratorical contest is held each 'year on the birthday of Dr. Rich He Is a member of the school board and has ! taken pains to promote public speak -I Ing in the schools. |
