Show Dallas Isom Wins Corporation Certificate of Merit Dallas Isom, senior student at the Cedar City High School and. a son of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Isom, was the recipient of a certificate certifi-cate of Merit given by the National Na-tional Merit Scholarship Corporation, Corpor-ation, this week. These certificates certifi-cates of merit are awarded senior sen-ior sttudents throughout the country who are estimated on the basis of tests to be in the top one-half of one per cent in ability abili-ty of all high school seniors. The N M S C has been conducting con-ducting a nationwide hunt for Students best able to benefit from a college education. Certificate Certi-ficate of Merit winners have been chosen for their excellent showing show-ing in the search, which covered hundreds of thousands of students stu-dents in the 10,338 high schools that entered the competition. Dallas was one of 35 senior students receiving the certlf .oates of award in the state of Utah. He Is one of 4300 in the entire United State!. These students are now being carefully appraised as scholarship winners. Over 60,000 students were nominated no-minated by their high school principals to take the first NMSC test last October, when more than one millior dollars in scho-arshlps scho-arshlps was announced as available. avail-able. This million dollars has been matched by the NMSC so that three million dollars worth of scholarships are now available for the coming school year. The Merit Scholar program is thus the Jargest private scholarship program in American history. Each of the scholarships to be awarded on this year's program will have an average total value to student and college of $6,000 and will cover all four years of college. Scholarship winners, selected from the Certificate winners, 'will be announced on or about May 1. |
