Show JosephJIainedhamber President; Reports Made onrouplkwHies Last Saturday evening at the annual election meeting of the Paruvvan Chamber of Commerce, held In the courtroom of the Iron County courthouse, Howard Joseph, local merchant, was named as president of the organization or-ganization for the coming year which begins on May 1, 1U56. He will replace Howard Knight, w ho has been president of the chamber cham-ber for the past year. At tho same tiirtp Robert B. Mitchell was named vice presi-dent, presi-dent, and Ralph Orton secretary and treasurer nf the civic organization, or-ganization, with Jim Barton and Jay W. Moore as members of the board of directors. The outgoing president automatically becomes a member of the board also. Retiring officers of the chamber cham-ber are W. Clair Rowley, vice president; D. Watson Adams, secretary sec-retary and treasurer and E. J. King. E. Ray Lyman and Dr. Roy T. WUkerson as members of the board. President Knight presided at the meeting and made a report on the activities of the chamber during the past year and made recommendations on unfinished business that should be completed complet-ed and also recommended several sever-al new projects which should be undertaken. He also made recommendations recommenda-tions as to what could be done to Increase the effectiveness of the work of the group. Other reports were made by chairmen of the several standing coimiutu.-. among them A. C. Hatch on the Cedar Breaks rim road, and Jess Guymon on the Parowan Canyon Road. In Mr. Hatch's report he stated that an appropriation had been made to begin the rim road around the Breaks to link up the road from Cedar City to the Parks Company lodge on the south rim with the north rim lookout and the road up Parowan Canyon. He stated that this road would be finished fin-ished within the next few years. Guymon reported that bids wlU be called for In the near future for the construction of a three-mile three-mile stretch of the Parowan Canyon Can-yon road which will connect the oiled highway at the head of Main Canyon with the recently built stretch which starts above the White Cliffs. Some prelim-Inary prelim-Inary work at the head of Main Canyon is under way now, and will be completed before bids' are called on the new section, which wUl undertake the heavy con struction through the ledges In what is known as Cu.'.sem's Canyon. Can-yon. He reported that $150,000 had been appropriated from State Class B Road funds for this project, pro-ject, with the hope that it will ba sufficient to do the job.
