Show City Clean-Up Week Launched by Mayor's Proclamation A proclamation was Issued this week by Mayor Arnold Anderson, setting forth the week which began be-gan Monday, through Sunday, April 22 as "Clean-Up, Fix-Up and Paint-Up Week" in Cedar City. The campaign is being sponsored spon-sored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce and the City Beautifi-cation Beautifi-cation Committee. For the final two days of the campaign, Satur-day Satur-day and Sunday, the Jaycees will undertake to haul off all accumulated accu-mulated rubbish and debris that is placed on the curb In front of the homei. Property owners have been asked to get the rubbish put In front as soon as possible so that "back tracking" can be eliminated elimin-ated when the Jaycees begin the pickup drive. Mayor Anderson in his proclamation proc-lamation urged .every citizen to participate In the program stating stat-ing "that the general health and welfare of our citizens depends upon wholesome surroundings arising from good, clean living conditions." He further stated that "the lives and property of our people r endangered bv fir and ac cidents caused by littered and cluttered conditions In home, places of business-, places of pub. lie assembJy, alleys and streets" and that "a-clean and beautiful community Is a proud and prosperous pros-perous community." He called upon ajl departments of the city, Its commercial organizations, or-ganizations, civic clubs', schools, churches, boys and girls' clubs and all other associations and the people In general to take an active part In this constructive program of community Improve-ment Improve-ment to insure Its success". Carl Hardy, chairman of the project for the Jaycees, gave these suggestions to participating participat-ing citizens: First, anchor down or put In i containers, debris and rubbish that might blow away. Second, any rubblsli, such as prunings from trees, etc., will be hauJed if they can be handled by two men. Third, have the rubbish and debris adjacent to the street by Saturday morning, if possible, so that the hauling teams can make the rounds quickly and without bypassing any residents. Fourth, cooperate in getting ' vacant lots' In your neighborhood ! cleaned up In this community, 1 1 cooperative effort. |
