Show Two Interesting .Senate Bills. . , Washington, February 9. Among the bills introduced in the Senate yesterday, were the following : " By Senator Sherman, authorizing the President to invite all the governments of Mexico, Central America and South America and Brazil to send delegates to meet in convention con-vention in Washington, upon such a day as he may appoint during the present year, to consider such questions as relate to the best mode of establishing upon a- firm and lasting last-ing basis, peaceful and reciprocal commercial commer-cial relations, and also to adopt such measures meas-ures as "may be considered practicable to carry forward the construction of an International Inter-national railroad between the United States and these countries. It appropriates $50,-000, $50,-000, to be placed to the credit of the Secretary Secre-tary of State to defray the expense of the convention. Senator Plumb submitted a resolution, requesting re-questing the Secretary of State to report to the Senate the amount in bushels, of wheat, corn and rye, and in pounds of cotton, produced pro-duced and consumed in, imported into and exported from the different countries with which this country holds commercial intercourse, inter-course, during the years 1884 and 1885, compared com-pared with three years preceding these dates, the surplus products now on hand in foreign countries, and the amount likely to be required re-quired by importing countries before September Sep-tember 1st, 1886, with the average acreage of wheat now in the ground in foreign countries coun-tries for the crop of 1886; also whether later advices confirm the figures and opinion contained con-tained in his report to the Senate, April 21st, 1884, and the reasons so far as his official information extends which cause a continued depression in the prices of such products in this country and throughout the world. |
