Show The Election Returns. The polls materially improved yesterday yester-day after the Democrat went to press,' and contrary to general expectation a very fair-sized vote resulted. Of course it could not be considered a heavy one on general comparison, as notwithstanding several hundred new names have been added to the registration lists during the past year or two, the total vote is but a trifle larger than it has been in a number of cases within the last two or three years. The People's party polled an average Of about 2,621 votes, and the remainder re-mainder of the ballots which were given to the Reform Ticket approximated something like 109. On the People's Ticket Alfred Solomon fell some 259 votes behind the highest vote, which was cast for Mr. T. G. Webber. Junius F. Wells, John W.Taylor and Heber J. Grant also fell noticeably behind in the order named. By those who watched the proceedings at the various polls it was observed tnat the great majority of the votes were cast by females, and this may have been superinduced largely by the threatening complexion of a certain clause in the new Edmunds bill which presages an early death to woman suffrage. |
