The Neios speoial from Paris, Texas, says: At 10 o'clook yesterday morning a posse of 100 mounted masked men rode up to this county jail, took out R. F. Garrett, who killed Deputy Sheriff Davis, and strung him up to a tree, where his body was found this morning. Paris, Texas, February 9.-At 1 o'clock yesterday morning a mounted posse of nearly 100 masked men suddenly appeared in front of the jail in this (Lamar) county. While the cavalcade remained mounted, a dozen of the party dismounted and knocked for admittance at the front door. Jailer Baldwin opened the door, and immediately two men sprang inside. Baldwin showed fight and fired nia revolver, but the men knocked his arm up and then choked Baldwin Bald-win until he grew black in the face, and then broke open a cell.- The mob seized R. T. GARRETT, A WOUNDED DESPERADO, Who killed Deputy Sheriff Clay Davis. They dragged him through the jail, placed him in a wagon which was standing waiting outside, out-side, and marohed to the timber, three-quarters three-quarters of a mile distant, where Garrett was strung up to a tree. His body was found dangling from a common halter in the morning. The vigilantes prepared the attack with great care. Guards were placed on every street leading to the jail. The jailer's wife rang the alarm bell. Many citizens tried to reaoh the jail, but were ' PULLED UP BI SrX-SHOOTEES. : Garrett was arrested for disturbing the Christmas tree festival at Shockley prairie. Deputy Sheriff Davis kindly permitted him to visit his home before going to jail, whereupon where-upon Garrett seized his rifle and brutally murdered the officer when the latter's back was turned.
