Show LEGISLATIVE PROCEEDINGS. The Council. , January 28th, 2 p. m. The Committee Commit-tee on Claims, to whom was referred the petition of A.' E. Merriam, asking to be reimbursed in the sum of $250.50 for non-' non-' collectible taxes paid by him, recommended recom-mended that the sum of $224.35 (non-col-leectible- taxes in . Emery and Sanpete counties) be appropriated tohis relief.. The remainder ($26.15) which should, in the opinion of the committee,' have been collected with force, was not allowed. Adopted. ... The Committee on Highways, to whom was referred the petition of R. .A. Allen and others, asking for an appropriation ! of $1,000 from the Territorial treasury be used in repairing roads along and making mak-ing bridges over the Sevier river in Piute county, recommended that $700 be put in the general appropriation bill provided the County Court of Piute county expend $300 for the same purpose. Adopted. C. F. No. 14, pertaining to the apportioning appor-tioning of the Legislative fepresentation of the Territory of Utah, was made a special order of the day, but on motion the further consideration of the bill' was deferred until Tuesday, in order to give the committee ample time to see that no precincts had been omitted. The substitute for C. F. No. 15, relating relat-ing to the manner of adjusting disputes in county boundary lines, wa3 made a special order for Monday. A message from the House was received re-ceived to the effect that a committee of three namely, Rider, King and Lund-had Lund-had been appointed to act with, a like committee from the Council, to examine and destroy the redeemed warrants of the Auditor. Sharp suggested that the warrants be properly checked up,canceled and filed away for future reference, and not destfbyed. Grover's motion to have the message referred to the Committee on Claims and Public Accounts, with instructions in-structions to prepare a joint resolution covering the original resolution and the proposed amendments, was carried. Another House message was received stating that C. F. No. 6, relative to the licensing of vendors of farm, garden and orchard products, had been reported back with amendments. . Referred to the Committee Com-mittee on Judiciary. : The substitute for H. F. No. 9, providing provid-ing for the selection and payment pf jurors, was taken up on its third reading, j Jurors' fees are to be paid in cash, and for this purpose the bill provides for an appropriation of $15,000 for 1886 aQd $15,000 for 1887. The per diem is $1.50 and mileage 15 cents. The bill passed by a unanimous vote. C. F. No. 22, a bill providing for assignments as-signments of insolvent debtors, was read for the third time. The bill provides that there shall be no preferred creditors and an assignee shall give a sufficient bond to the acceptance of the Probate Judge. No material amendments were offered, and the bill passed, . Taylor's being be-ing the only negative vote. C. Fv No. 23, amending sections 194 and 196 of the Code of Civil Procedure, passed by a unanimous vote. The bill provides for a longer time within which actions may be commenced for violations of written obligations. On-motion of Sharp, the Council went into executive session and remained in session about ten minutes to consider the nominations for Territorial officers made by his Excellency, the Governor. Sharp moved that when the Council adjourned the time be set at 10 a. m. today. to-day. Carried. At 4 o'clock the Council adjourned agreeable to this motion. : ' . - i . The House. J anuaey 29. Pursuant to adjournment House met at 10 a. m. The minutes of yesterday were read, amended and approved. Mr. Stratford presented a petition in regard to the destruction of quail. Committee Com-mittee on Fish and Game. Mr. Hatch presented a petition from the county tax collector of "Wasatch county, asking to be reimbursed for uncollectible un-collectible taxes which he had paid. Mr. Kimball An act to restrain bulls from running at large. Committee on Live Stock. - A motion was made that' when the House adjourn it be until Monday at 2 p. m. Carried. a C. F. No. 19, section 18, chapter 45, Session Laws of .1884, read and made a ' special order for next Tuesday. Adjourned. I |
