Show 1 , I Viffnanx Close Vt to Schaefer. New Yobk, January 23. The third night's play in the billiard match between Jacob bchaefer and Maurice Vignaux took place to-night. In the first two nights Schaefer make a total of 1,200 and Vignaux 835. Tonight To-night either party was entitled to make the J first 1,800, although Vignaux would have to j make 985 points to enable him to reach this desirable position. Cosmopolitan Hall was again filled with an immense audience. Tlie score at the end of the eighth inning stood: Vignaux 171, Schaefer 134. In the eleventh inning Vignaux retired, paving made 12G. At the end of the fourteenth four-teenth inning the strings showed Schaefer had made 207 and Vignaux 346. From this point on Schaefer played rather a tame game, with one or two spurts of effective work. In the twentieth inning he made 73, in the twenty-seventh inning 100 and in the thirtieth 78. Vignaux, on the other hand, after putting together 99 in his fifteenth inning, in-ning, made no very large runs, nor did he make many small ones. The result was that, with a steadv succession of double figures, he managed to amass 91S buttons when Schaefer reached 600, and the night's play ended, bringing the Frenchman very near to his opponent.
