Show Brewster to stand trial FARMINGTON -- A 2 1 -year- . old Bountiful man who pleaded guilty to manslaughter in regards to the strangulation death of his mother has asked for the original charge of criminal homicide to be reinstated and to stand trial on that . charge. Robert Lawrence Brewster alleges he was coerced into confession confes-sion and plea by law enforcement officers, court appointed counsel and family members for the 1983 death of his mother. Upon the defendant's request. Judge Douglas Cornaby set aside Mr. Brewster's guilty plea and will allow him to stand trial on the original ori-ginal charge of criminal homicide, a first degree felony. In 2nd District Court Tuesday, Judge Cornaby declared Mr. Brewster indigent and appointed court counsel to serve as his attorney attor-ney during the trial. Mr. Brewster was serving a one-to-1 5 year sentence at the Utah State Prison for his guilty plea to a manslaughter charge concerning the death of his 48-year-old mother, Marilyn Brewster. The victim's body was found in October Octo-ber 1983 in her Bountiful apartment. apart-ment. She had been strangled with an electrical cord. Her son was arrested two months later. Mr. Brewster was moved from the state prison to the Davis County Coun-ty Jail for trial and bail is set at $50,000. A trial dale was not arranged. |
