Show PEOPLE MUST ACT during august of last year the people of san juan county in general and the people of the eastern end of the county in particular took up the matter of getting a postal route beleen monticello and lockerby and petitioned the postoffice post office department for a route in due time the request was acted upon and an advertisement for bids for the route was posted this resulted in one bid being sent in which bid asked for a salary of 1800 per year and which the department took no more notice of in the latter part of the winter another petition was circulated asking for a postal route and it seems from correspondence received by 0 W mcconkie that harry V pyle of dolores colo had gotten busy with congressman ed taylor of colorado asking for a similar route at all events last week other proposals for bids for a trl tri week ly route were received and posted by postmaster walton the advertisement calls for the same route as was proposed last summer in fact is identically the same as the former the people 0 of f monticello and lockerby never had learned why the contract for the route had not been let oil on the former bid until the letter from congressman taylor to mr pyle was received here he and it is very enlightening in so far as it shows thattie that the postal department presumes to tell mail contractors what they can carry the mails for in asking for bids for the work here is the letter in full washington D C feb 12 1919 harry V pyle dolores colo |
