Show Loco! Men Explore Primitive MiddSe SsSsrsoa River Area in 10-Day Trip A party of six Salt Lake young men, five of whom are south-easterners, south-easterners, returned last month from a thrilling 10-day boat trip through one of the wildest, most primitive areas left in the United States. Those making the run down the river were W. L. (Bill) Hansen, Dr. Lincoln Daynes. Pete Nielsen, J. S. Perry, John Campbell, and John Talmadge. With the exception of John Campbell, the men are all residents resi-dents or business men of Southeast South-east Salt Lake. The party entered the river at Bear Valley July 9th and finished their trip ten days later near Salmon City after having traveled 115 miles through an Idaho wilderness 7000-Ft. Canyon The river, which runs through a canyon that is in places more than 7000 feet deep, has a fall ten times as great as that of the Colorado. It falls 3000 feet in 115 miles which makes it the swiftest naviagable river in the United States States. Three 250-pound boats ot black synthetic rubber were used for the voyage with specially spe-cially built eight-foot oak oars. The boats stood the trip much better than the oars, Mr. Perry stated, as several oars were broken in the rocks and rapids. The river.- according to- Mr. Perry, runs through one of the largest white pine forests in the coiu :-y which is filled with an abundance of wild game. The vcyagers observed a great number num-ber of mountain sheep, goats, deer and bear. The river itself is a fisherman's fisher-man's paradise and abounds with trout and salmon. The men caught so many trout that they had to throw them back into the river. They were not so fortunate in catching salmon, however, Mr. Perry said. The party took 2000 feet of colored movies as well' as a great number of excellent still pictures. If anyone desires to see America Amer-ica as it used to be in its w'ild and unspoiled state, and does not mind an occasional impromptu im-promptu swim, the Salmon River Riv-er run should adequately fill the bill Mr. Perry said. |
