Featured in Nat'l Trade Journal i Lighting Digest names Local Community "Brightest Spot in Intermountain West" Two trade journals, both published by General Electric, last month carried fully illustrated feature stories on Sugar House's recently installed "White Way" lighting system. Both articles lauds?d the commuinity's progressive pro-gressive spirit and civic pride. Highlights of both articles, taken from ''Lighting Digest," and "The Lighting Specialist," July, 1949, are reprinted here. One of the best White Way street-lighting installations in the Intermountain West was re-cenly re-cenly completed in the Sugar House area, Utah. This system extends from Seventh East to 13th East on 21st South Street, and from Ramona Avenue to . 21st South on 11th East, and from 21st South to Simpson Avenue on Highland Drive, thereby covering the entire area of the Sugar House business district. The results accomplished by this outstanding installation more than justify the hard selling problem that Ray Raymond, Ray-mond, Salt Lake City Office, faced and overcame. The system consists of 142 steel poles space approximately 100 feet opposite. A six-foot upsweep up-sweep bracket, with a TOAD luminaire is suspended on eacli pole, so that the light center is approximately 30 feet from the see WHITE WAY on page seven ing installations in the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain West. Visitors, while in Salt Lake City, have been invited to make a trip to Sugar House to see the "Brightest Spot in the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain West." The installation was made by the Wasath Electric Company as contractors for the Utah Power and Light Company. Much credit should be given to Mayor Earl J. Glade, Commissioner Com-missioner L. C. Progressive Group The Sugar House merchants, a very progressive group, realized real-ized that in order to compete with the downtown area of Salt Lake City they would have to do something to attract customers custom-ers to their business area. Thinking from the angle of traffic safety, and good street ! illumination, they laid plans for the present White Way system. After much hard work by a Sugar House Chamber of Commerce Com-merce committee, "headed by John iC. Barnes, the system was approved by the City Commission Commis-sion and the installation started.
